Surviving Life as a Highly Sensitive Person

Updated: Aug 10, 2022

A Piece of My Mental Wellness Journey

A review of July

Since this crazy world turned upside down with the COVID-19 pandemic, so many people are realizing that they have some mental wellness work to do. You may have discovered that - Hey, you really like having lots of alone time. Or, that when you don't have your support people in you life on a regular basis, that everything gets so much more difficult. So many people in my world have discovered that they really enjoy alone time and that they are actually introverts trying to survive in an extroverted world.

Personally for me, I discovered that I am a weird mix of both introvert AND extrovert, I think every 'test' I have done has come with results all in the middle (true colours, Meyers briggs, etc.)

I need both time alone and time in connection, thank goodness for the phone, facetime and zoom.

How does this relate to being a 'Highly Sensitive Person' you may ask...

Well I am glad you did.

As a Highly Sensitive Person, I need to take care of my personal energy. I only have so much patience and as I left one of my clients on the 1st of July, I had to learn to be more patient with myself. More forgiving about how much I can ACTUALLY do in a day, and how much I SHOULD do in a day (so I don't overdo it). I overdid it too many time to track, put myself in more pain than I needed to and ended up needing more support than I had in place. A couple of trips to the ER for migraine protocol is crazy in one month. Especially since I have been tracking headaches for years and had my migraines down to a handful each year.

I Learned to SLOOOOOW DOWN...

I am using August as a month to clearly schedule in my self care time. Including eating more healthy meals, drinking lots of water and taking my retreat days more seriously. I am taking time each day to have a few minutes for myself, both in the morning and in the evening (I can hear the sarcasm from here - yes, I do live alone, and yet, I need to remember to take time away from social media, phone, and WORK to re-centre myself and bring myself to peace each and every day).

What about you? Have you recently learned a bit more about yourself? About ways to take care of your own needs? To show yourself the love that you need to experience?

I look forward to hearing from you.
